Rear Admiral Scott Jones

Rear Adm. Scott Jones is a native of Sacramento, California.  At 17 years old, Jones dropped out of high school and enlisted in the Navy where he served six years as an Electronic Warfare Technician. He completed Western Pacific cruises aboard USS O’Callahan (FF-1051) and USS David R. Ray (DD-971). In 1987, Jones graduated cum laude from National University with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.  He completed Aviation Officer Candidate School in 1988 as a distinguished naval graduate and was designated a Naval Aviator in October 1989.  Jones is also a

2009 graduate of the National War College, Fort McNair, Washington, District of Columbia, where he earned a Master of Science in National Security Strategy.

Jones completed operational assignments flying the P-3C Orion with Patrol Squadron (VP) 44 and the VP-8 Tigers based in Brunswick, Maine., as well as with the Fighting Totems of VP-69 based in Whidbey Island, Washington.

His command tours include: VP-69, Commander Task Force 74 - Theater Anti-Submarine Warfare Detachment, Chief of Naval Air Training Reserve Component, and 3rd Fleet Joint Forces Maritime Component Command Reserve Component.

His shore assignments include instructor pilot duty with Training Squadron 27 and Chief of Naval Air Training Command. Jones served as N3 with Commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet, Maritime Air Operations Detachment in Tucson, Arizona. Additionally, he served on active duty as Naval Air Training chief of staff.  Jones last assignment prior to becoming a flag officer was at Navy Region Southwest Reserve Component Command as the deputy commander.

Jones’ first flag officer assignment was deputy commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic. He assumed the role as commander, Naval Air Force Reserve in September 2018.

Jones has accumulated over 4,500 flight hours in numerous naval aircraft.  His military decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal and various other personal and unit awards.
