Rear Admiral Anthony Carullo

Rear Adm. Anthony Carullo is a native of Quincy, Massachusetts, and raised in Central Florida. He is a 1991 graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering under the Nuclear Enlisted Commissioning Program. He holds a Master of Science in Management from Troy University, and he is a fellow of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Seminar XXI. He enlisted in the Navy in 1986.

His operational assignments include command of Submarine Group 8, Naples, Italy; command of Task Force 69, Naples, Italy; and command of USS Greeneville (SSN 772), Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He also served aboard USS Wyoming (SSBN 742) (GOLD) as executive officer; USS Philadelphia (SSN 690) as engineer officer; and USS Cincinnati (SSN 693) and USS Greeneville (SSN 772) as a division officer.

His staff assignments included director of maritime operations, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa, and deputy commander, U.S. 6th Fleet; deputy director for the Strategic Targeting and Nuclear Mission Planning (J5N),  U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM); duty as deputy commander and chief of staff for the Commander of Submarine Force U.S. Pacific Fleet; as well as the director of maritime operations; special assistant (personnel policy and training) to the Director of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program; executive assistant to the Director of Undersea Warfare (OPNAV N97); executive assistant for Strategic Strike in the Office of the Secretary of Defense; a junior member of the Nuclear Propulsion Examining Board on the staff of the Commander, U. S. Fleet Forces Command; and an instructor at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command. In 2005 and 2009, he completed the submarine command course.

He currently serves as the Director, Plans and Policy, United States Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska. As director, He leads 375 personnel that developed strategy for the command’s responsibilities, to include strategic deterrence, nuclear operations, global strike operations, and missile defense. His directorate builds and maintains Department of Defense nuclear war contingency plans, and provides strategic support for theater combatant commanders and the command’s campaign plan.

His awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal (two awards), Legion of Merit (four awards), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), as well as many unit and campaign awards.
