From Susan Brink

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Naval Air Station Corpus Christi's Public Works Department gives the greenlight to begin renovations later this year to a hangar being used as a maintenance facility for Corpus Christi Army Depot.

Public Works Department (PWD) Corpus Christi issued a Notice to Proceed, Sept. 15, for construction to begin on renovations to Hangar 47, which is scheduled to start later this year at Naval Air Station (NAS) Corpus Christi, Texas.

Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Southeast initially awarded the $32.8 million design-bid-build contract, Aug. 17, to BL Harbert from Birmingham, Ala. for the stabilization, repair and renovation to the hangar currently occupied by the Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD).

“Corpus Christi Army Depot is our largest tenant command on the installation and we are excited to continue providing support to their critical mission,” said Deputy Public Works Officer Courtney De Pol. “This project renovates one of our original 1940s era hangars and will further CCAD’s ability to provide world-class maintenance of rotary wing aircraft.”

The 108,393 square foot hangar serves as a maintenance facility for the CCAD that performs depot level maintenance on a variety of U.S. Army helicopters including UH-60 Black Hawk, CH-47 Chinook, AH-64 Apache, and OH-58 Kiowa aircraft.

The scope of the work includes; structural stabilization, removal and replacement of the exterior envelope, renovation of the hangar bay for industrial occupancy and renovation of the office lean-to wings, the provision of two elevators, removal and replacement of the building systems to include HVAC, power and lighting, and telecommunication systems.

The project’s estimated completion date is set for November 2023.
