Boise, Idaho, nestled in the Treasure Valley, will host members of the U.S. Navy during Boise Navy Week, Aug. 19-24, in conjunction with the Western Idaho Fair.
Navy Weeks, coordinated by the Navy Office of Community Outreach, are designed to give Americans the opportunity to learn about the Navy, its people, and its importance to national security and prosperity. Since 2005, the Navy Week program has served as the Navy's flagship outreach effort into areas of the country without a significant Navy presence, providing the public a firsthand look at the Navy the nation needs.
Boise Navy Week marks the return of the Navy to the Treasure Valley, which last hosted a Navy Week in 2016.
“During a Navy Week, approximately 75 outreach events are coordinated with corporate, civic, government, education, media, veterans, community service and diversity organizations in the city,” said Lt. Jacqui Maxwell, lead planner for Boise Navy Week. “We’re looking forward to coming back to the Treasure Valley!”
Senior Executive Service Paul Landauer, Director, Civilian Personnel and Business Operations Division for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy, will serve as the host for Boise Navy Week.
Sailors participating come from a wide range of commands, demonstrating the Navy’s versatility and vitality in protecting and defending America around the world, around the clock.
Among those participating will be the Sailors from Boise’s namesake ship, USS Boise, as well as Sailors from Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Group One, Navy Band Northwest, the U.S. Naval Academy, and more.
During the week, Sailors will also visit a local Boy’s and Girl’s Club of America location and several areas around the community to provide STEM-focused outreach to local kids.
Boise Navy Week is the tenth of 14 Navy Weeks scheduled in 2019. To see a schedule of events open to the public, please visit https://outreach.navy.mil/Navy-Weeks/Boise/
