NAVFAC Employee Honored at 37th Annual Disability Awards Ceremony  (10 October 2017)
Ray Bourgeois, Office of General Counsel, Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), was honored at the 37th Annual Disability Awards, receiving a Secretary of Defense award for Outstanding DoD Service Members and Civilian Employees with Disabilities at the Pentagon auditorium, Oct. 5.

USS New York Departs Mayport for Potential Assistance Following Hurricane Nate  (8 October 2017)
USS New York (LPD 21), along with components of Fleet Surgical Team (FST) 8, Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 40 and HSM 46 departed Naval Station Mayport, Florida, Oct. 7, to support the Gulf coast region if assistance is requested in the wake of Hurricane Nate.

UPDATE: USS Iwo Jima and USS New York Ordered to Get Underway  (6 October 2017)
Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces, Adm. Phil Davidson, had ordered the amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7) and amphibious transport dock ship USS New York (LPD 21), with elements from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, to get underway from their homeport in Mayport Oct. 7.

What happens when the lifelines of an island's lifelines fail? After Hurricane Maria passed over Puerto Rico, leaving behind the bare, broken bones of nature and an island without power, at least 51 hospitals were left running on generators.
