March 2018 E4-E6 Advancement Cycle Announced  (18 October 2017)
The March 2018 Navy-wide enlisted examinations (Cycle 239) testing dates for active duty, full time support and canvasser recruiter Sailors who are advancement eligible to the paygrades of E4-E6 have been announced in Naval Administrative Message (NAVADMIN) 252/17, released Oct. 18.

The Navy will christen its newest attack submarine, the future USS South Dakota (SSN 790), during an 10 a.m. EDT ceremony Saturday, Oct. 14, at General Dynamics Electric Boat Shipyard in Groton, Connecticut.
US Navy Completes USS John S McCain Transport Preparations  (13 October 2017)
U.S. Navy ocean engineering specialists announced that they had completed preparations to transport USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) to Yokosuka, Japan, for repairs Oct. 11.
USS Cole Holds Remembrance Ceremony   (12 October 2017)
The guided-missile destroyer USS Cole (DDG 67) crew, families and guests gathered together at Naval Station Norfolk to commemorate the 17th anniversary of the ship's bombing, with a wreath-laying and "Roll Call of Heroes," Oct. 12.
USS John S McCain CO and XO Relieved  (10 October 2017)
The commanding officer, Cmdr. Alfredo J. Sanchez, and executive officer, Cmdr. Jessie L. Sanchez, of the guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) were relieved of their duties by Vice Adm. Phil Sawyer, commander, 7th Fleet, Oct. 11.
USS Washington Brought to Life, Commissioned at Naval Station Norfolk  (7 October 2017)
The Navy with assistance from the submarine's sponsor Elisabeth Mabus, daughter of the 75th Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, commissioned and brought to life the newest Virginia class submarine, USS Washington (SSN 787), during a ceremony on board Naval Station Norfolk, Oct. 7.
USNS Comfort Responds to Second Hospital Generator Failure in Puerto Rico  (7 October 2017)
The Mercy-class Military Sealift Command hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20), underway near the coast of the Arecibo-Manati region of Puerto Rico, received four critical patients from Hospital Menonita in Caguas, Puerto Rico, after its generator failed, Oct. 6.

The Mercy-class Military Sealift Command hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) in San Juan, Puerto Rico, received five critical patients around 8 p.m. Oct. 4, from Ryder Memorial Hospital in Humacao, Puerto Rico, after its generator failed.
