  • Sailors assigned to the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Shoup (DDG 86) stand by on the flight deck during flight operations, during Rim of the Pacific 2016. Twenty-six nations, more than 40 ships and submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 30 to Aug. 4, in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California.  The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity that helps participants foster and sustain the cooperative relationships that are critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans.   • An F/A-18C Hornet assigned to the Wildcats of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 131 makes an arrested landing on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69). The ship and its Carrier Strike Group are deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.   • The guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance (DDG 111) takes on fuel from the Australian oiler HMAS Success (OR 304) while a Super Puma helicopter assigned to the U.S. Military Sealift Command USNS Matthew Perry (T-AKE 9), not pictured, transfers stores between the three ships during a refueling at sea. Spruance, along with the guided-missile destroyers USS Momsen (DDG 92) and USS Decatur (DDG 73), are deployed in support of maritime security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific as part of a U.S. 3rd Fleet Pacific Surface Action Group (PAC SAG) under Commander, Destroyer Squadron (CDS) 31.   • The ceremonial color guard rehearses on the flight deck of the Navy's only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), for the Carrier Task Force 70 change of command. During the change of command, the color guard presents the flags, which each represent a different ally in the western Pacific. Ronald Reagan provides a combat-ready force, which protects and defends the collective maritime interests of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
