  • Lt. Isabel Gomez, assigned to the guided-missile destroyer USS Chafee (DDG 90), briefs Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Energy, Installations & Environment) Dennis McGinn on Chafee's environmental protocols and procedures during a ship tour and environmental award presentation aboard Chafee at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. Chafee was a winner of the 2015 Secretary of the Navy Environmental Award announced March 11, 2016. Chafee transited more than 37,000 miles on a seven-month deployment to the 3rd, 4th, and 7th Fleet Areas of Responsibility during 2015 while participating in the Oceania Maritime Security Initiative, Talisman Sabre 15, UNITAS PAC 15, and UNITAS LANT 15. Chafee conducted all operations with no impact to marine mammals and with safe and clean refueling operations.   • Sailors take a lunch break from the high operational tempo of the Navy's only forward-deployed aircraft carrier  USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). U.S. Navy Aircraft carriers, like Reagan, serve up to 18,150 meals a day. Ronald Reagan, the Carrier Strike Group Five (CSG 5) flagship, is on patrol in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific. David Krause,from Greenville, S.C. and a cardiologist embarked aboard the hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19), reads to Vietnamese children during a Pacific Partnership 2016 English conversation community relation event. Mercy is joined by JS Shimokita (LST-4002) and Vietnam People's Navy ship, Khanh Ha for Pacific Partnership. Partner nations are working side-by-side with local organizations to conduct cooperative health engagements, community relation events and subject matter expert exchanges to better prepare for natural disaster or crisis. Sailors Graduate First USN-JMSDF NCO Leadership Continuum

Twenty Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) and U.S. Navy (USN) sailors graduated the first Bilateral Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) Leadership Continuum held at Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY), Japan, July 21.
