On their way home to San Diego from a scheduled deployment in the 6th Fleet Area of Responsibility, Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Higgins (DDG 76) crew members were diverted to Haiti in the wake of a devastating earthquake which struck the country Jan. 12.
First U.S. Navy Ship to Respond to Haiti Returns After Deployment   (5 February 2010)
After a humanitarian mission to Haiti, and an independent deployment of more than six months, the guided-missile destroyer USS Higgins (DDG 76) returned to San Diego Feb. 3.
