Three veterans of the Battle of Midway were honored at Midway Airport during a ceremony sponsored by Naval Station Great Lakes (NSGL), the Chicago Department of Aviation, and the Chicago Marine Heritage Society, June 7.

Forty nine volunteer chief selectees completed training to serve, for the second consecutive year, as tour guides at the Museum of Science and Industry for the USO U-505 Naval History Program, presented along with the Pritzker Military Library and the museum, Sept. 4-8.

Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department Naval Station Great Lakes won a Gold Medal Award from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).

Battle of Midway Veteran Speaks at Great Lakes Ceremony  (7 June 2013)
Following the solemn ceremony dedicated to the 71st anniversary of the Battle of Midway at the Great Lakes Naval Museum, a survivor of that battle told the capacity audience about his experiences in the Pacific during World War II.

The Federal Executive Board (FEB) of Chicago, representing all Federal Agencies and employees in Chicago selected Naval Station Great Lakes (NSGL) as the Federal Agency of the Year for 2013.
Northern Lights Brings Navy Medicine to the Home Field  (14 May 2014)
Two weeks each year, Sailors from around the country gather here to attend Northern Lights, an annual Navy Reserve medical training exercise May 1 through 14, hosted by Expeditionary Medical Facility Great Lakes One, a Navy Reserve expeditionary medical unit based out of Great Lakes, Ill.
