A 30-foot by 42-foot Star Spangled Banner Flag replica is raised during the By Dawn's Early Light program at Fort McHenry in support of the Star Spangled Spectacular. The event celebrated the bicentennial of the Battle of Baltimore, which provided the inspiration for the Francis Scott Key poem, Defense of Fort McHenry, which later became America's national anthem. America Arrives to Homeport After Maiden Transit

The future amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) arrived at its homeport of San Diego for the first time Sept. 15 after completing its two-month maiden transit from Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
