  • Aircrewmen load an Air-Deployable Expendable Ice Buoy onto a Royal Danish Air Force C-130 aircraft at Thule Air Force Base in Greenland, in preparation for deployment in the high Arctic as part of the International Arctic Buoy Program (IABP). The deployment team, led by the Office of Naval Research, included personnel from the National Ice Center, Office of the Oceanographer of the Navy, Environment and Climate Change Canada and the University of Washington. IABP is a conglomeration of global participants that maintain a network of drifting buoys in the Arctic Ocean that provide meteorological and oceanographic data for real-time operational requirements and research purposes.   • Civilians, Sailors and Airmen in the Hawaii region area came together to host a large scale cleanup near a military housing area on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. The event is a part of a larger scale effort by Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and Navy Region Hawaii to join the community in improving the quality of life on the island.   • Explosive ordnance disposal technicians assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) 5 help repair a damaged coral reef in Apra Harbor, Guam. EODMU-5 coordinated with Guam's Department of Agriculture, Division of Aquatic and Wildlife Resources and Guam Environmental Protection Agency to assist in the coral reef restoration. 2017 CNO Environmental Award Winners Honored with Ceremony

The deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Fleet Readiness and Logistics, VADM Dixon Smith, recognized the 27 winners of the 2017 Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Environmental Awards during a video teleconference (VTC) ceremony at the Pentagon on June 13.
