Carl Vinson completed a nearly 10-month deployment to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf. Carl Vinson deployed to the U.S. 7th and 5th Fleet areas of operation supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, maritime security operations, and theater security cooperation efforts in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. Members of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) 8 and Estonia explosive ordnance disposal team members deploy enclosed flotation bags in order to tow a World War II-era German bottom-mine as part of mine countermeasure operations in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Estonia during Exercise Open Spirit 2015. EODMU-8 is working in conjunction with explosive ordnance disposal teams from Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden to dispose of unexploded ordnance originating from World War II.
