Captain Chris DeGregory hails from Ludlow, Massachusetts, and is a 1991 graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, earning his commission through Navy ROTC at the College of the Holy Cross. His Division Officer tours were in USS Denver (LPD 9) and Assault Craft Unit One. He completed Department Head tours as Chief Engineer in USS Stethem (DDG 63) and USS Elliot (DD 967).
Captain DeGregory was the commissioning Executive Officer in USS James E. Williams (DDG 95) and served as Chief Staff Officer for Destroyer Squadron TWO SIX embarked in USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75). He commanded USS Bulkeley (DDG 84) from May 2009 through March 2011. While deployed, Bulkeley rescued the hijacked vessel M/V Guanabara, removing four Somali pirates and escorting the vessel to a safe port. Most recently, Captain DeGregory commanded USS Monterey (CG 61) from August 2015 to June 2017. During his tour, Monterey completed a highly successful seven-month deployment to Fifth and Sixth Fleets as Ballistic Missile Defense Commander for the Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group.
Ashore, Captain DeGregory commanded Afloat Training Group, Norfolk, from July 2011 through June 2013 and served as Chief of Current Operations for U.S. Central Command in Tampa, FL from June 2013 through April 2015. He holds a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA and a Master of Arts degree (with distinction) in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.
His military decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (two awards), Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various unit and expeditionary awards.
