Rear Admiral Bob Kamensky, son of an Air Force chief master sergeant, has set his roots in San Diego. He is a 1979 graduate of Texas A&M University completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering. Following nuclear propulsion training and Submarine School, he reported to USS Drum (SSN 677) in San Diego in December 1980. He served on USS Drum holding positions as main propulsion assistant, damage control assistant and weapons officer department head through May 1984 making three deployments to the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean.
Kamensky transitioned to the Reserve Component in 1984 and served in a number of commands supporting submarine operations in the Pacific theater through 2002. Kamensky commanded three units during this time. He was reassigned in 2002 to Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command and assumed command of the lead unit in 2005. In 2007, Kamensky was assigned to Commander Submarine Force serving as the Submarine Force Reserve Component chief of staff with oversight of 72 reserve units supporting worldwide operations. He is currently serving as vice commander Submarine Force.
Over Navy and civilian careers, Kamensky has participated in several professional development programs and completed his Master of Science degree in Aerospace Systems. He attended the Executive Learning Program at San Diego State University and the Navy Corporate Business Class at the Navy Executive Learning Center in Monterey. His personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Navy Commendation Medal and Navy Achievement Medal.
In his civilian career, Kamensky serves as the director of the Organizational Process Management Office (since 2006), with specific emphasis on Lean Six Sigma (LSS) program implementation for commander Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command. He holds collateral assignments with the secretary of the Navy’s LSS Transformation Team Leads Group and the DoN LSS Metrics Working Group. He has previously been employed by General Dynamics – Convair Division, General Atomics – Sorrento Electronics Division, and Sony Electronics Corporation.
