Rear Admiral Valerie K. Huegel, SC, USN is currently serving as the commander, Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support Group (NAVELSG).
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Delaware and her Master of Science degree in Counseling from Troy State University. She was commissioned through Officer Candidate School in 1980.
While on active duty, she served as fuels, stock control and aviation supply support division officer, Naval Station Adak, Alaska; and as material and aviation supply support division officer, Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Florida.
Huegel transitioned to the Navy Reserve in 1986. Her reserve assignments include three command tours at NR Fleet and Industrial Supply Center, Norfolk; Navy Cargo Handling Battalion 13, Gulfport, Mississippi; and Navy Supply Center, Pensacola, Florida. Other reserve assignments include forward director, Joint Contingency Acquisition Support Office, Defense Logistics Agency; chief of staff, Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support Group; deputy director of logistics, Naval Readiness Command Region Southeast; operations officer, Naval Expeditionary Logistics Support Force; executive officer, Navy Cargo Handling Battalion 13; executive officer, Navy Supply Center, Pensacola; and supply officer, Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet.
She mobilized in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from October 2008 to January 2011, where she served as the director of Logistics (CJ4) for the Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa, Djibouti, Africa.
Her previous flag assignment was Deputy Commander, Naval Supply Systems Command Global Logistics Support (NAVSUP GLS) in San Diego.
In her civilian career, Huegel has served in various leadership positions within the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to include program administrator, Petroleum Restoration Program, Division of Waste Management; and program administrator, Office of Business and Planning, Northwest District.
Her personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Navy Commendation Medal, and Navy Achievement Medal (two awards).
