Rear Adm. (select) Coe is a 1975 graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She earned her Doctorate in Dental Surgery from the State University of New York, Buffalo, in 1984. In 1982, she was commissioned as an ensign, Dental Corps and attended initial training via officer indoctrination school.
Receiving initial orders to Navy Dental Clinic, Camp Lejeune, N.C., she served two years in this command prior to being transferred to the Naval Hospital, Camp Lejeune as the staff dental officer.
In 1988, she affiliated with the Navy Reserve (NR) and served with NR Naval Dental Clinic Camp Lejeune Det 107. After a five-month Active Duty for Special Work assignment at the Naval Training Center, Orlando, Fla., Coe opened a private general dentistry practice in Naples, Fla., in 1990. With the relocation to Florida, her assignments: administrative officer for NR Fleet Hospital 500 COMMZ 14 Det I, and NR USS Yellowstone (AD 41) Det 508; commanding officer, NR Naval Hospital Jacksonville Det 1108 and NR Naval Dental Clinic Pensacola Det 108; company commander, Collecting and Clearing Company Bravo, 4th Medical Battalion, 4th Force Service Support Group (4th FSSG); administrative officer, 4th Medical Battalion, 4th FSSG; staff dental officer, Readiness Command Southwest; commanding officer and executive officer, 4th Dental Battalion, 4th Marine Logistics Group. In 2007, she transferred to Navy Medicine National Capital Area to serve as the deputy chief of staff. This tour was interrupted by a deployment to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center as the deputy director, Navy Expeditionary Medical Unit 10. She assumed the duties of the Dental Corps Reserve Affairs Officer, Bureau Medicine and Surgery in September 2010. She is a graduate of the Air Command and Staff and Air War College.
Coe is authorized to wear the Meritorious Service Medal (six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), National Defense Service Medal (two awards), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Medal, Navy Pistol Marksmanship Medal (Expert) and the Fleet Marine Force Warfare Qualified Officer insignia.
