Rear Admiral Babette  "Bette" Bolivar

Rear Admiral Bolivar is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Oceanography. She holds a Master of Science in Management from Troy State University.

Bolivar reported to her first tour as the Fleet and Message Center officer/CMS custodian of the U.S. Naval Communications Station, San Miguel, Philippines. She then served on the Secretary of the Navy’s (The Honorable James H. Webb, Jr.) staff as a writer/researcher for the SECNAV’s White House Liaison Office; and then in 1988, Bolivar was accepted for lateral transfer to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal / Diving and Salvage Community as a special operations officer.

Bolivar served in various leadership positions aboard USS Reclaimer (ARS 42), USS Grasp (ARS 51), USS Grapple (ARS 53), and USS Recovery (ARS 43). She served as the commanding officer of USS Salvor (ARS 52). Bolivar’s other operational tours include: commanding officer of Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit (MDSU) ONE and officer-in-charge of Counter Radio-Controlled Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Electronic Warfare (CREW) Program while deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom’s Counter-I ED Task Force, Task Force Paladin.

Ashore, Bolivar served in various leadership assignments at: Naval Station Norfolk (ordnance officer), COMNAVSURFLANT & EODGRU TWO Staff, Atlantic Ordnance Command Yorktown (ordnance officer), Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek (executive officer), and Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (operations officer and military professor). She also served as the commanding officer of Naval Weapons Station Yorktown and Navy Munitions Command CONUS East Division (NMC CED). Bolivar also served as the chief of staff for Commander Navy Installations Command (CNIC) and then as commander, Navy Region Northwest. Bolivar assumed command of Joint Region Marianas in August 2014. Her other hats include: U.S. PACOM / Defense Representative Guam-CNMI-FSM-ROP; Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Marianas; and Commander, Task Force West.

Bolivar’s decorations include the Legion of Merit Medal (with 1 Gold Star), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (with 3 Gold Stars), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 4 Gold Stars), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with 1 Gold Star), and various campaign, unit, and service awards including recognition as the CNO’s Pacific Fleet Finalist for the VADM James Stockdale Leadership Award. She was also inducted into the Women Divers Hall of Fame.
