Rear Admiral Lawrence S. Rice

Rear Adm. Lawrence S. Rice is the director of Strategy and Policy (J5). In this capacity he and his team help the command accomplish its mission by developing strategy and policy, ensuring that it is within the National Military Strategy and other strategic frameworks.

His sea tours include executive officer aboard the USS Enterprise and assistant chief of staff for training and exercises for the commander of Striking Fleet Atlantic/U.S. Navy 2nd Fleet in Norfolk, Va.

Rice has commanded Fighter Squadron 2, the amphibious assault ship USS Cleveland, and the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise.

Ashore, he has served as an instructor pilot, executive officer for Fighter Squadron 124, Naval Air Station Miramar, Calif. Rice also served as the aide to the commander at Atlantic Fleet and Allied Command Atlantic.

Rice has accumulated over 3,700 hours in the F-14 and F/A-18 and 800 carrier landings.

A native of Los Angeles, Rice graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a bachelor of science in Aerospace Engineering in 1979, has a master's degree from the Naval War College, and attended the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School.

His awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medals, an Air Medal (Strike Flight), Navy Commendation Medals and the Navy Achievement Medal.
