Rear Admiral  Katherine McCabe

Rear Adm. Katherine McCabe is the daughter of a career naval officer who settled in Cherry Hill, New Jersey and a 1988 graduate of Villanova University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Finance). Upon commissioning via Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC), she served at the Fleet Numerical Oceanography Center, Monterey, California, and Joint Tactical C3 Agency, Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, then transitioned to the Navy Reserve (NR)

and redesignated as an Human Resource officer in 2007.

Reserve assignments include NR Naval Activity United Kingdom Detachment Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Combined Naval Costal Warfare Unit Seattle, Washington; Naval Construction Force (NCF) Support Unit Three Detachment Bravo, Fort Jackson, South Carolina as officer in charge and Third Regiment, Atlanta, Georgia; and telecommunication tours (NCTAMS) with Mediterranean Det Columbia, South Carolina as executive officer and Atlantic Detachment Norfolk, Virginia as commanding officer.  As commanding officer for Washington, District of Columbia Detachment, she stood up the Naval Reserve Naval Network Warfare Command Computer Network Defense Unit in Little Creek, Virginia.

Staff assignments include naval reserve commander Navy Region Mid-Atlantic ROC as executive officer and twice with Naval Reserve chief of naval operations (CNO) Operations & Plans, formerly Naval Reserve Navy Command Center Detachment 106, as Navy department watch officer and crisis action team officer from the outset of Operation Enduring Freedom; and a decade later as deputy chief staff officer (CSO) and CSO.  Additional Chief of Naval Operation tours were study officer in charge, Naval reserve CNO management analysis and CO, NR CNO N1 Navy Total Force.

McCabe’s previous activations include North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Training Mission-Afghanistan, as the senior advisor to Afghan National Security Forces Recruiting and Retention and Naval Sea Systems Command as Wounded Warrior program director.

Flag assignments directly support the Navy’s Manpower, Personnel, Training, and Education domain to recruit, develop, assign and retain Sailors, as director (OPNAV N13), reserve director (N13A) and acting director, 21st Century Sailor Office (OPNAV N17).  She is a certified Senior Human Resources Professional, Level II JQS, a graduate of the Naval War College and the Joint Forces Staff College, and previously served on the Navy Reserve Policy Board and the Human Resource Executive Board.

Personal recognitions include the Bronze Star, Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist badge, and various personal decorations.  She is most proud to have served with shipmates who, together, earned the Joint Meritorious Unit Award and Meritorious Unit Commendation.
