Lieutenant Commander David E. Davis enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a
Machinist Mate in November 1979. He subsequently received an NROTC scholarship to the
University of Florida, and in May 1986 graduated with a B.D. in Architecture and received
his commission as Ensign in the Special Operations Officer community.
Following training at Surface Warfare Officer School, Newport, Rhode
Island, and the Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center, Panama City, Florida, he was
assigned to USS Salvor (ARS 52). Aboard Salvor he served as First Lieutenant and later as Operations Officer from February 1988 to February 1990.
From March 1990 to August 1991 he served as Operations Officer in USS
Conserver (ARS 39). After further training at Surface Warfare Officer School, Newport,
Rhode Island, he served again in USS Salvor as Executive Officer from June 1992 to June
1994.
In July 1994, Lieut. Cmdr. Davis reported for duty to Naval Submarine Training Center Pacific, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where he served as Director of
the U.S. Navy Dive School, Pearl Harbor until October 1996.
Lieut. Cmdr. Davis attended the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode
Island from November 1996 until November 1997, where he received an M.A. in National
Security and Strategic Studies. He assumed command of USS Grapple (ARS 53) in March 1998.
Lieut. Cmdr. Davis is the recipient of the Meritorious Service
Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (with two gold stars), Meritorious Unit Commendation,
National Defense Service Medal, and Sea Service Deployment ribbon (with bronze star).
