SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- After a 13-month renovation, Navy Lodge San Diego has added 100 new guest rooms fully equipped with 2 queen-sized beds, a complete kitchenette and a second telephone jack to hook up a computer.

Also added were four new handicapped accessible rooms featuring a queen-size bed and a queen-size sofa-bed. In addition, the original 97 rooms were renovated with new wall coverings, carpeting and furnishings.

"We are very excited about these changes, especially the upgrade from double beds to queen-size," said Bonnie Quirke, manager of Navy Lodge San Diego. "The lobby is also scheduled for renovation."

Within walking distance of the Navy Lodge is the Navy Exchange with a beauty & barber shop, florist, optical shop, gas station, MWR discount Ticket & Travel Office, laundry/dry cleaning area and food court. A mini-mart and McDonald's are also nearby.

The Commissary and Housing Office are just two blocks away. San Diego Trolley and bus stops are half a block away. Take a short drive and you reach base clubs, beaches, downtown San Diego, Sea World, the San Diego Zoo and Mexico. You can also visit the Wild Animal Park, Old Town, Balboa Park or Seaport Village.
