Roughead Makes First CNO Visit to South Africa

CAPE TOWN, South Africa (NNS) -- Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. Gary Roughead is making the first CNO counterpart visit to South Africa April 3-8.

He is meeting with the Chief of the South African Navy Vice Adm. Johannes Refiloe Mudimu to continue to build coalition partnerships and discuss training and maritime security cooperation in the region.

Roughead will tour the South African Maritime Warfare School, South African Navy (SAN) submarine SAS Queen Modjadji (S 103) and SAN ship SAS Spioenkop (F 147).

CNO said he was excited about this important visit.

"It's a great honor to be here, and I'm privileged to be the first CNO to visit South Africa and to be part of such an extraordinary event," Roughead said.
