Navy Casualty Aboard USS John C. Stennis

USS JOHN C. STENNIS, Singapore (NNS) -- A Sailor assigned to USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) died April 24 after sustaining injuries while performing maintenance on the exterior of the ship moored at Changi Pier, Singapore.

The Sailor was aboard a small boat conducting a routine procedure to secure drains from the ship's catapult system when he was crushed between the small boat and the ship's hull. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Sailor's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin

USS John C. Stennis arrived in Singapore April 24 for a scheduled port visit during a six-month deployment to the western Pacific Ocean.

An investigation into the cause of the accident has been initiated.
