VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (NNS) -- The Center for Personal and Professional Development (CPPD) was awarded three Naval Education and Training Command (NETC) awards April 3 for excellence in training.

Areas that are judged are Legal, Public Affairs and the Safety and Occupational Health Management Evaluation Program.

"The recipients epitomize the highest degree of training excellence found throughout the Naval Education and Training Command," according to the Naval message announcing the winners. "The continued success in the delivery of training will ensure highly trained, top quality Sailors are available to meet the needs of our fleet."

"I am proud to have instructors and course management teams so invested in making all of the courses CPPD offers the best they can be. From course development to the instruction followed by our periodic curriculum reviews, our CPPD team creates a solid foundation of knowledge for our students," said Doug Kibbey, CPPD's executive director.

CPPD was awarded the Business Administration and Support "Yellow T" award, "Black T" for Curriculum Management, and "Gray T" for Planning and Programming.
The "Yellow T" award recognizes the Learning Center and Training Support Center that best exemplified business administrative support excellence to its staff and students.

"Coordination, communication and verification are the reasons why we are successful," said safety coordinator for CPPD headquarters Chief Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Aircraft Handling) James Priest. "The learning site safety reps do a great job on keeping me updated as to where they stand with Enterprise Safety Applications Management System (ESAMS) reports and inspections."

CPPD is authorized to display the burgees (an identification flag), through the 2013 calendar year to signify outstanding accomplishments and excellence in delivery of education and training.

In a message to his staff, CPPD Commanding Officer Capt. John P. Newcomer wrote, "This is a direct reflection of your hard work and leadership over the course of the last year. This could not be accomplished without your attention to detail, true understanding of the needs, and nothing less than outstanding performance."

CPPD administers the Navy's voluntary education program, which provides Sailors with the opportunity to earn college degrees. CPPD additionally manages the United Services Military Apprenticeship Program (USMAP), which offers Sailors the opportunity to earn civilian apprenticeship certifications.
