Renowned Information Systems Professor to Present at NWDC Speaker Series

NORFOLK (NNS) -- Professor of Information Systems at Florida International University (FIU) will speak at the Navy Warfare Development Command's (NWDC) Speaker Series, May 15, at Naval Station Norfolk and and the remarks will stream on Defense Connect Online (DCO).
Dr. George M. Marakas will present "Everything That Can Be Digital, Will Be Digital."
NWDC's Speaker Series is designed to stimulate provocative discussion and action to drive a culture of innovation in the Navy.
Marakas' teaching expertise includes Systems Analysis and Design, Technology-Assisted Decision Making, Electronic Commerce, Management of IS Resources, Behavioral IS Research Methods, and Data Visualization and Decision Support. In addition, he is an active researcher in the area of Systems Analysis Methods, Data Mining and Visualization, Creativity Enhancement, Conceptual Data Modeling, Technology Acceptance, and Computer Self-Efficacy.
Marakas received his Ph.D. in Information Systems from Florida International University in Miami and his M.B.A. from Colorado State University. Prior to his position at FIU, he has been a member of the faculty at University of Kansas, the R.H. Smith School of Business at University of Maryland and the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, as well as an adjunct faculty member at Helsinki School of Economics.
"Going forward, many military innovations will actually be adapted from technology and other developments made by industry," said Rear Adm. Terry B. Kraft, commander, NWDC. "Dr. Marakas' combined business and technology expertise will bring insights into quickly identifying and applying commercial developments for Navy innovation, especially in the digital realm."
Participants in the Hampton Roads area are invited to attend the presentation in-person at NWDC's headquarters at 1528 Piersey Street, Building O-27, at Naval Station Norfolk.
