CHERRY POINT, N.C. (NNS) -- Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point, located on Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, has once again been recognized for its outstanding Health Promotions and Wellness program, receiving its seventh consecutive Navy Surgeon General's Health Promotion and Wellness Blue H award.

The annual award is presented to Navy and Marine Corps facilities which excel in the areas of nutrition, weight management, tobacco free living and cessation programs, sexual health, fitness programs, alcohol abuse and injury prevention.

"Our staff is constantly involved in health awareness efforts through their participation in health fairs, classes, committee meetings and prevention and safety checks which screen each of our patients for alcohol, tobacco and weight issues." said Lt. Daniel Watson, NHCCP's Wellness department head.

The clinic will be recognized with its sixth Gold Star for the Surgeon General's Blue H award, making this the seventh consecutive year NHCCP has received the Blue H.

The Blue H award is available at three levels of achievement: Bronze Anchor, Silver Eagle and Gold Star. Commands achieving 80 percent of the total points possible earn the Gold level award.

The Blue H Award organizes workplace-level information to form a tally of points for each command in each topic and category. The topics analyzed include responsible drinking, injury and violence-free living, healthy eating, reproductive and sexual health, psychological health, tobacco free living, and weight management. Commands eligible for the Gold Star level must achieve no less than 50 percent in each category and topic.

"At NHCCP, we consider our entire staff to be involved in patient care and although some staff members never see a patient, everyone is involved in fostering a healthy workplace and environment for our patients. One of the tools we use extensively is the staff health risk assessment which guides our internal health promotion and wellness efforts," said Watson. "When NHCCP is awarded the Surgeon General's Blue H award for Health Promotion and Wellness it's truly an award that is earned by the entire command."

"Earning this award seven years in a row is truly a testament to our staff," said NHCCP Commanding Officer Capt. Angela Nimmo. "Our Wellness department consistently improves year after year and is constantly adding new programs and coming up with new ideas to promote a healthy lifestyle for our patients and staff."

Named after Medal of Honor recipient, Pharmacist's Mate 2nd Class William D. Halyburton, the Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point provides high-quality patient care to more than 33,000 active-duty members and Department of Defense beneficiaries. In addition to outpatient surgical services, NHCCP offers Medical Home Port (including family care and pediatrics), dermatology, internal medicine, orthopedics, physical therapy, mental
