BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE, La. (NNS) -- Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 28 awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Acheivement Medal (NAM) to Utilitiesman 1st Class (SCW) Brian C. Schexnaydre Jan. 13 in recognition of his being named the battalion's Reserve Sailor of the Year. The program is designed to recognize and reward the dedication and performance of outstanding enlisted Sailors.
Schexnaydre, who drills with NMCB 28's 6th Detachment in New Orleans, has functioned as the Seabee Military Instructor for his detachment for the past year, and also planned, organized and executed a detachment mini-FEX in 2004.
Construction Electrician 2nd Class Michael Kortus of NMCB 28 Det. 07, who worked with Schexnaydre during last year's annual training, thought that Schexnaydre was very deserving of the award.
"Schexnaydre is a great guy, always pleasant to be around and very dedicated to the Navy. He's the one you want fighting with you if you have to fight," he said. "There is no doubt in my mind he'll make an outstanding chief one day."
Construction Mechanic 2nd Class Jose Carias, who drills with Schexnaydre, agreed.
"He's a hard-working man, very respected, and a very good Seabee. He sets a good example for all," Carias said. "As a first class, he deserves to be a chief and more."
Cmdr. Jim Schroeder, commanding officer of NMCB 28, presented Schexnaydre with his certificate during the ceremony.
