MILLINGTON, Tenn. (NNS) -- The Navy Personnel Command (NPC) Communications Office published the 50th anniversary edition of Shift Colors, the Newsletter serving about 650,000 Navy retirees, in the Winter 2005 edition.
For the past 50 years, Shift Colors has provided retirees and their family members with up-to-date information pertaining to their pay and benefits. It includes continual updates from TRICARE; Defense Finance and Accounting Service; Morale, Welfare and Recreation; and NPC’s Retired Activities Office.
The 50th Anniversary issue of Shift Colors gives readers a look back at 1955 with a five-page spread featuring stories and photos sent in by readers.
“It was apparent that our readers are very proud of their military service, and they were eager to tell their story. Their small piece of the puzzle fits quite nicely into our country’s naval history, and we appreciate them taking the time to put their thoughts on paper and forwarding for inclusion in this issue,” said Lindsay Conner, Managing Editor.
The NPC Communications office is responsible for publishing Shift Colors three times per year, making sure the information being passed on to readers is accurate and up-to-date with the latest changes in retiree benefits. At the same time, it provides a fact-filled reference source for family members to use to better understand their benefits and responsibilities.
“Thank you for the fine publication and the excellent information you send me via Shift Colors. I have used the information to help me in my retirement and appreciate especially the articles on things like DEERS, myPay, Tax Statements, and what my spouse should know," wrote retired Capt. Clayton Petty. "I keep the Ready Reference Contact Information sheet where I can get to it easily.”
Shift Colors can be accessed through the NPC Web site at www.npc.navy.mil, and clicking on reference library and then publications.
The Shift Colors Web page provides the latest issue of Shift Colors, back issues beginning from 2002, reunion listings, information updates, ready reference contact information, and retiree seminars.
