NORFOLK (NNS) -- Capt. Fredrick Pawlowski relieved Capt. James Cook as the Commander of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 3 during a change of command ceremony aboard USS Harry S. Truman
(CVN 75) on March 1.

After serving as commander since September 2005, Cook accepted an instructor position at the Naval War College, Newport, R.I.

"The backbone, heart and muscle of the carrier air wing organization are her Sailors," Cook said. "Watching you and your squadrons meet every expectation, make new standards, create new doctrine, grow and care for your Sailors has been the highlight of my career."

Vice Adm. Edward Chanik, guest speaker for the event, reassured the command that Pawlowski would perform as effectivly as commander as he did as deputy commander.

"There is zero doubt in my mind that he will continue to lead this air wing to even greater heights," Chanik said.

"I couldn't be more excited to take command," Pawlowski said.

Pawlowski earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in vocation and occupational education from Southern University in 1982.

Pawlowski's awards include: Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Strike /Flight Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals (with Combat "V"), as well as other various service and campaign awards.
