NORFOLK, Va. (NNS) -- Anthony A. Greenhalgh, Force Tactical Communications and Information Systems Manager for the 1st Naval Construction Division Pacific in Pearl Harbor, has been selected to receive a 2007 Copernicus Award.

The award recipients were announced Dec. 20. The Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association and U.S. Naval Institute established the award in 1997 to recognize contributions to Command, Control, Communications, Computing and Intelligence information systems and technology in the Naval Services.

Greenhalgh is responsible for operation and maintenance of global communications and information systems for all Naval Construction Force units. He provides management policy, guidance and coordination for Seabee units in homeport and deployed worldwide. He is also responsible for the readiness of Seabee units to perform tactical Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance functions.

He established the Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) capability that now supports Seabee operations around the world. By planning, procuring and fielding these systems, Greenhalgh made significant contributions to tactical, operational, and strategic capabilities in the Naval Construction Force.

His efforts included ensuring that Seabee units had the most current communications systems and in sufficient quantities. He also acquired high speed reach-back satellite communications systems that allow deployed Seabees in the field to tap into engineering experts in CONUS to provide engineering assistance.

Greenhalgh also spearheaded the development of Expeditionary Network Operations Centers to support the satellite communication system and provide training for Seabee expeditionary network operators.

The Copernicus Awards will be presented at the annual Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association/U.S. Naval Institute Western Conference and Exhibition Feb. 5 in San Diego, Calif.
