NAVAL STATION PORT HUENEME, Calif. (NNS) -- Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 40 was awarded the Commander, Pacific Fleet Retention Excellence Award for fiscal year 2008, Dec 2.

With more than 100 reenlistments in FY 2008, the career counselor's office was busy according to command career counselor, Chief Navy Counselor (DV/PJ) Doug Park.

"The Navy sells itself," said Park, a Las Vegas native. "We're just here to give the Sailors information. We try to ensure our folks have options. When you combine information and options you give Sailors all the tools they need to make career decisions."

The pride of winning such a coveted award was evident throughout the entire command.

"I'm very proud of our Seabees and their decision to stay Navy," said Cmdr. Glenn W. Hubbard, NMCB 40's commanding officer. "Reenlistments mean a lot to me, and I am honored to be a part of them."

Hubbard presents a pocket-sized copy of the United States Constitution to every reenlistee.

"When a Sailor decides to stay Navy, they swear an oath to the Constitution, and I think it's important for them to know the principles our country was founded on," said Hubbard.

When asked about the command's success, Chief Park quickly points to the command's retention team.

"Our khaki leadership and collateral-duty career counselors deserve all the credit," said Park. "We work as a team to ensure information gets down to the deckplate. When it's time for someone to apply for orders, they have had contact with their divisional and departmental career counselors to show them all the options they have."
