CAMP SHIELDS, Japan (NNS) -- The commander of 1st Naval Construction Division (1 NCD) visited Seabees of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 40 Feb. 24-27.

Rear Adm. Richard E. Cellon visited the Seabees as part of his tour of the Pacific Command (PACOM) Area of Operations. Cellon's visit offered a firsthand look at how the men and women of the "Fighting 40" are improving the operational capabilities for area commanders.

"It's early in your deployment, and I'm very impressed with what I've seen so far," said Cellon during an All-Hands call. "The one thing I hear from the commanders you're supporting is 'we love the Seabees.' You bring technical skills to the table that no other force in our military can provide."

During his visit, Cellon, accompanied by Command Master Chief Wade Howk, toured the construction projects at Camp Shields, Camp Foster, Kadena Air Base and Naval Facility White Beach.

Camp Shields marked Cellon's second stop of his tour. Other visits include Sasebo Japan, Guam and Singapore.

The Seabees of NMCB 40 will conclude their seven-month deployment and return to their Port Hueneme, Calif., homeport in August.
