CRANE, Ind. (NNS) -- Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division's (NSWC Crane) Electronic Warfare/Information Operations (EW/IO) Center successfully hosted the second annual Association of Old Crows (AOC) Electronic Warfare (EW) Capability Gaps and Enabling Technologies Conference May 5-7.

The event was the largest AOC EW conference in the organization's history.

More than 350 subject matter experts from the Department of Defense (DoD), private industry, military and academia attended the U.S. only classified conference, which focused on identifying EW capability gaps, investigating innovative technologies to fill these gaps and charting a new way ahead for the future. The event provided a forum for EW professionals to discuss specifics related to program requirements of both service unique platforms and those of combatant commanders.

"The conference pulled together a balanced mix of experts to generate interesting and productive discussions," said Don Schulte, director of NSWC Crane's Spectrum Warfare Systems Department. "It showcased our region's knowledge, experience and capabilities, as well as our leadership's commitment to EW across the DoD."

Over the course of the three-day conference, top leaders presented information about where EW capability baselines presently stand and where future technology is headed. Experts also discussed what technological challenges the community currently faces, as well as some solutions in development to confront these challenges.

"Experts agreed on what we need to do to fix the challenges we currently face," said Steve Mervyn, the lead for Naval Network Warfare Command's EW technical in process team and chairman of the conference.
"Leaders examined both the near and long-term plans of action to pave the EW road of the future."
