WASHINGTON (NNS) -- Join the Navy Band Oct. 17 at 8 p.m. to celebrate the Navy's 234th birthday at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington.
The theme of this year's concert is "Total Force...Total Performance."
The Concert Band will be joined on stage by ensembles and soloists from the Sea Chanters chorus, the Cruisers contemporary entertainment ensemble, and Country Current, a country-bluegrass ensemble. The production focuses on each of the Navy's six fleets and their respective areas of operation. Each ensemble brings a unique sound and musical perspective that represents the areas depicted in the narration.
From U.S. 2nd Fleet, based in Norfolk, Va., with its focus on the North Atlantic, to U.S. 7th Fleet, based in Yokosuka, Japan, responsible for the central and western Pacific Ocean, each fleet has its own purpose and confronts a unique set of challenges, but they are all part of a total force that demands total performance from each Sailor every day. The vibrant culture of each area will be portrayed by the featured ensembles and soloists.
Sailors are an indispensable component of today's Navy, as are the families that support their mission. Their sacrifices and service will be recognized in the "Salute to Sailors" and "Pride in our Service" sections of this performance. The assistance of the Navy's Fleet and Family Support services is an integral part of the total force concept, and ensures that Sailors and their families are well cared for during deployment.
The concert is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. To receive up to four free tickets, send a self-addressed, stamped, business-sized envelope to:
