NEW YORK (NNS) -- USS Carney (DDG 64) welcomed a group of Navy moms on board Sept. 12 for a first-hand look at what their sons and daughters do in the Navy each and every day.

"We were honored to have them here," said Carney Commanding Officer Cmdr. Brendan McLane. "It was an incredible way for them to really see the contribution their sons and daughters are making to our country."

Carney crew members took the Navy moms inside the skin of the ship, for an inside look at the guided-missile destroyer most visitors never get to see.

The event was put on in coordination with www.navyformoms.com, a Web site launched for mothers who have questions about what Navy life.

Carney arrived in New York Sept. 8 as part of a weeklong series of events marking the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's arrival to the city. Her crew of about 280 Sailors are preparing for a deployment with the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group.
