CRANE, Ind. (NNS) -- Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Crane was recognized for outstanding achievements as the Operational Test Activity for Comprehensive Maritime Awareness (CMA) and Maritime Automatic Super Track Enhanced Reporting (MASTER) Joint Capability Technology Demonstration (JCTD) programs Oct. 5.

Designed to provide a capability for maritime analysts to identify, track and support interdiction of potential maritime threats, the CMA JCTD was proven to have operational utility with major high priority goals achieved thanks to NSWC Crane's Joint Technology Assessment Activity (JTAA) team.

Capt. John Turner, U.S. Northern Command, deputy, Future Operations Division, and operational manager for the CMA and MASTER JCTD programs personally thanked the JTAA Team, Larry Solliday, Don Lowe and Jay Zook, in an email transmission for the work they did on both projects.

"CMA and MASTER were successful in large part because of the professional support provided to our team," said Turner. "NSWC Crane's team did a great job maintaining its independence throughout the process, yet found a path to be actively involved and understand every aspect of each program."

During the four demonstrations, CMA capabilities were assessed by JTAA for effectiveness, suitability and mission impact against specific Warfighter critical operational issues. They were proven to be suitable for the warfighter and provided a solution for the Department of Defense (DoD). Maritime situational awareness was also increased.

"CMA made a positive and immediate impact on our nation's maritime analytic capability," said Air Force Gen. Victor E. Renuart, commander, USNORTHCOM.

USNORTHCOM concurred with the JTAA recommendations in the final report and recommended implementing the actions outlined by their final report.

JTAA supports combatant commands and the director, Defense Research and Engineering's Rapid Fielding Office, which addresses acquiring new technology for the warfighter as quickly and cost effectively as possible. JTAA capabilities allow NSWC Crane experts to more effectively assess leading edge military technologies.
