USS CARL VINSON (NNS) -- USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) Sailors celebrated the start of the holiday season with a party at Hampton Coliseum, Nov 19.
The party was sponsored by the ship's Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) division to raise morale and give the crew one last chance to spend time with friends, family and shipmates before leaving for San Diego.
"This was a wonderful way to get everyone together," said Chief Aviation Ordnanceman (AW) Brian King, leading chief petty officer of MWR division. "We had to have the party early this year because of the upcoming ship's schedule and we wanted to have as many people to participate as possible."
More than 1,406 tickets were sold and Sailors and their families participated in casino games, prize raffles, and dancing while dinner and appetizers were served.
"I had a lot of fun playing the casino games and relaxing with my friends," said Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Handling) (AW/SW) James Barrows. "I definitely would go to another. I really enjoyed myself."
During the raffle, prizes ranged from game consoles to iPod shuffles and various gift cards. The grand prize was a seven-day cruise for two to Alaska valued at more than $3,000.
"I won a gift card," said Master-at-Arms 2nd Class Jonathon Prichard. "It was great and I was glad to see so many people outside of work. It was a lot of fun."
The proceeds from sales of the tickets sold, totaling $15,965 in profit, will go toward upcoming MWR events.
