SPOKANE, Wash. (NNS) -- Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Spokane hosted a pre-deployment readiness conference for Reservists and family members Feb. 21.

The conference offered information and tools for Sailors and family members prior to a deployment. The all-day event offered a variety of topics including information about family readiness, psychological health outreach, civilian employment issues, finances, medical and dental benefits, and legal advice.

"As commanding officer of a NOSC, it is extremely important to me that mobilized Sailors and their families know all of the incredibly vast resources that are available to them throughout the continuum of their deployment," said Lt. Cmdr. Kim Pizanti. "And, if they can't remember anything else from today, that the NOSC is here to help no matter how small or large the issue," Pizanti said.

This conference was presented for Seabees from Naval Construction Force, Detachment 0518 who are scheduled to deploy at the end of March.

Navy Region Northwest Reserve Component Command (RCC) also reaches out to Sailors, Soldiers and their families after a deployment. Several times a year, RCC hosts Returning Warrior Weekends (RWW). Those weekends provide an extended time for Sailors to share their stories remind them of benefits and resources available to help their transition back to civilian life. "The region's first RWW was in September of 2008," said RCC's Cynthia Miller who spoke about family readiness today.

"The financial side of things and the medical and Tricare information was very valuable to me as a father," said Russ Smith, whose son Trevor recently joined the Navy as a Seabee.
