ARLINGTON, Va. (NNS) -- Four retired U.S. Navy Chaplain Corps flag officers gathered with three current Chaplain Corps admirals Feb. 26 at the Old Post Chapel on Joint Base Myer – Henderson Hall to pay their respects to a former Navy chief of chaplains.
Former Chief of Chaplains Rear Adm. Neil M. Stevenson died Nov. 21 in Williamsburg, Va.
Stevenson led the Chaplain Corps from August 1983 to August 1985. He was buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery following a memorial service at the base chapel.
Participating and attending the service were retired Chiefs of Chaplains Rear Adm David E. White (August 1991 – August 1994) and Rear Adm. Ross H. Trower (May 1979 – August 1983) along with retired chaplain flag officers Rear Adm. Darold Bigger and Rear Adm. Harold Robinson.
Present Chief of Chaplains Rear Adm. Robert F. Burt; Deputy Chief of Chaplains and Chaplain of the Marine Corps, Rear Adm. Mark L. Tidd; and Deputy Chief of Chaplains for Reserve Matters, Rear Adm. Joseph D. Stinson, also participated in the 45-minute chapel program and subsequent interment.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Stevenson served in Vietnam in the late 1960s. He is survived by his wife Diane.
