NORFOLK, Va. (NNS) -- The Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (HST CSG) deployed May 21 for a six-month deployment, to the 5th and 6th fleet areas of operations, in support of maritime security operations.

The HST CSG includes Commander, Carrier Strike Group (CCSG) 10; the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75; Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 3; Commander, Destroyer Squadron (CDS) 26; the guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60), and guided-missile destroyers USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81), USS Oscar Austin (DDG 79), USS Ross (DDG 71) and German Frigate FGS Hessen (F221).

Missions of the HST CSG focus heavily on maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts, which help establish conditions for regional stability.

"I'm extremely proud of the men and women of the Truman Carrier Strike Group," said Rear Adm. Patrick Driscoll, commander, Carrier Strike Group 10. "We are ready to deploy in support of troops on the ground, execute the nation's Maritime Strategy, and protect our nation's interests."

The deployment is part of an on-going rotation of forward-deployed forces to support maritime security operations and operating in international waters around the globe, working with other coalition maritime forces.

The HST CSG, which consists of approximately 6,000 Sailors who, over the last four months, have successfully completed refresher training and certifications to ensure they operate effectively and safely together.

"The USS Harry S. Truman has worked hard to maintain our operational excellence, and we are prepared to answer the call. There is no doubt in my mind that these Sailors are prepared to get underway, and that they will excel at whatever task we are assigned," said Capt. Joseph Clarkson, Truman's commanding officer.

Getting back up to a 12-carrier Navy? We have 11 right now, with #12 being built. There, it would seem, is your wisdom.

My prayers are with the USS Harrry S Truman Strike Group. Hoping for a quick journey back home for you all. I love you son and am very proud of you.

If Mr. Gates and the Obama administration are successful in cutting our carrier force back even further these fine men and women will have to deploy more often and for longer than 6 months at a time. Please help our "leaders" to find the wisdom to build back to the 12 (or more) carrier force. Ask the Reagan and Nimitz sailors they know what this will be like.

You may have a very important task ahead. As an American father of an ex US Stennis sailor who served proudly during the Iraqi surge, I would recommend that POTUS send you all to Korea and park off that coast and run military exercises. I would also send another strike force there also. That may tell Kim to stop this insane provocature attitude. At any rate, you are part of the most powerful force on Earth. May God go with you.

This is my son's second deployment on the Truman. This is the hardest thing that a momma and a dad can ever do is to let their kids go to another country and never know except thru the faith that they have in GOD that they will be coming home safely to them. The first one was hard when our son left but this second one was not any easier. It is so hard when they pull out on that ship to know that you might not hear from them for seven to nine months. GOD bless all of the sailors on the Truman

"They that go down to the sea in ships and occupy their business in great waters: these men see the works of the Lord and his wonders in the deep. For at his word the stormy wind ariseth which lifteth up the waves thereof. They are carried up to the heaven, and down again to the deep: their souls melteth away because of the trouble. They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end. So when they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, he delivereth them...

Roger that Mr. Jones. You have apparantly raised a youngster along with 4500 Sailors and Marines that see our country as it is, not as what the left would like to evision it. Sadly, politics have become a factor in the defense of our country and projection of our countries Navy Warships on any coast, make tyrants think twice before making a mistake or miscalculate our intents. Senior Naval Officers will make the difference the next several years with a poor Navy Sec, along with CIC.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire strike group. We all eagerly await your safe return. Thank You to all who currently serve or have served so that me and my family can be free.
