GROTON, Conn. (NNS) -- The commanding officer of the Trident Training Facility (TTF) in Bangor, Wash., was relieved of his command Sept. 14 by the commanding officer of Submarine Learning Center (SLC) in Groton, Conn.

Capt. David Solms, commanding officer of TTF, was relieved by Capt. Kenneth A. Swan, commanding officer of SLC.

Swan directed the relief after losing confidence in Solms' ability to command following an investigation.

Solms has been temporarily reassigned to Commander, Navy Region Northwest. He took command of the TTF in September 2009.

Cmdr. Geoffrey C. James will serve as interim commanding officer pending selection of a permanent replacement.

What is the deal? The Navy has been relieving CO's at a horrific pace here lately. Is thsi political or is there something very worong with the promotion process that is not catching these people before hand?
