WASHINGTON (NNS) -- Rear Adm. Scott A. Weikert, Civil Engineer Corps, USN, reported October 1 as the Naval Facilities Engineering Command's (NAVFAC) Deputy Commander and Deputy Chief of Civil Engineers. Weikert received his second star at a promotion ceremony October 2 at the Seabee Memorial, in Arlington, Va.
NAVFAC manages the planning, design, construction, contingency engineering, real estate, environmental, and public works support for U.S. Navy shore facilities around the world. NAVFAC is a global organization with an annual volume of business in excess of $11 billion.
A native of York, Pa., Weikert enlisted in the Navy in 1974. He entered Drexel University on a Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) scholarship and graduated in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He was commissioned as an ensign in the Civil Engineer Corps.
"It is hard to describe the pride and humility that comes with having the opportunity to continue to serve our country and our great Navy in these challenging times," said Weikert. "As a 17-year-old kid who enlisted in the Navy fresh out of high school, I never dreamed I'd ever have this opportunity."
After serving several years on active duty, Weikert joined the Navy Reserve in 1987 and reported to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 21 in Lakehurst, N.J., then commanded NMCB 27 headquartered in Brunswick, Maine. Most recently, he served as the deputy commander of the 1st Naval Construction Division in Norfolk, Va. from October 2008 through September 2010.
Weikert commanded the 7th Naval Construction Regiment in Newport, R.I., from 2003 to 2005. In July 2004, he served as the deputy commander and chief of staff of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force Engineer Group, Camp Fallujah, Iraq, providing general engineering and construction services in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In September 2005, Weikert assumed command of Naval Engineer Forces Korea supporting the commander, U.S. Naval Forces Korea. From June 2008 through October 2008, he served as the deputy commander, Navy Expeditionary Combat Command.
In his civilian occupation, Weikert is an equity partner and managing principal of Lucas Marine Construction L.L.C., providing marine construction services throughout Florida. He holds a master's degree in business administration from Pennsylvania State University and is on the Seabee Memorial Scholarship Association's Board of Directors. His military awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards), and various other service decorations.
