FORT WORTH, Texas (NNS) -- The U.S. Navy Blue Angels are scheduled to headline the 2011 Air Power Expo aboard Naval Air Station (NAS) Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base, Texas, April 16-17.
The Blue Angels will be performing at the air station's air show as part of their 2011 demonstration schedule that focuses on the U.S. Navy's centennial celebration.
According to the Blue Angels' Public Affairs Department, the NAS Fort Worth performance will include a flight demonstration that exhibits the choreographed refinements of skills possessed by all naval aviators.
The show will begin with a tactical demonstration performed by the Blue Angels' C-130, affectionately known as 'Fat Albert,' said Chief Mass Communication Specialist Kurt Anderson, Blue Angels public affairs officer.
'Fat Albert' begins its demonstration with a 'Jet Assisted Take Off' to simulate flight operations in a hostile environment. After the 45 degree, nose-up climb to an altitude of 1,000 feet, they conclude their display with a demonstration of the breaking abilities of the C-130 by landing the aircraft and stopping it in less than 1000 feet.
Following 'Fat Albert's performance, the audience will observe the Blue Angel F/A-18 Hornets execute aerobatic maneuvers, said Anderson. The performances by 'Fat Albert' and the F/A-18 Hornets will be the culmination of each day.
In addition to the Blue Angles, the Air Power Expo 2011 will include performances by VFA-204 (USNR) River Rattlers, VFA-122 Flying Eagles, the Marine AV-8B II Harrier demonstration team, the U.S. Air Force Viper West Coast F-16 demonstration team, the A-10 Thunderbolt West demonstration team, U.S. Air Force Heritage Flight Program, the Special Operations Command Para-commandos, Red Eagle Air Sports, Jason Newburg and Viper Air Shows, and the Extra 300L flown by Jan Collmer and Tim Weber.
