ARABIAN SEA (NNS) -- USS Enterprise (CVN 65) successfully recovered one of its Sailors who went overboard on April 3, at approximately 9:30 a.m. local time, while the ship was operating in the Arabian Sea.
The Sailor was quickly recovered by a SH-60F helicopter from Helicopter Anti-submarine Squadron (HS) 11, assigned to Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 1, which was already airborne as the standby Search and Rescue (SAR) helicopter. SAR helicopters are frequently airborne during flight quarters as a safety measure.
The Sailor sustained minor injuries and is being treated by the ship's medical department.

I am very proud of the job our men and women do, especially in emergencies such as this. I lost HS friends on the USS Forestal during the VN era, so I am acutely aware of the kinds of things that can happen. These men and women live in peril every day and look out for each other 100%. I am glad this young serviceman is okay and Kudos to those involved in his rescue. It could easily have gone the other way.
