WASHINGTON (NNS) -- AcademyWomen, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the mentoring and professional development of military women, will hold their 8th annual Officer Women Leadership Symposium at the Women in Military Service for America Memorial in Arlington, Va., Sept. 23-24.
With a theme of "Leading Change: Individually, Locally, Globally," the conference aims to provide military women venues to network with colleagues and to grow professionally and personally through keynotes, panel discussions, and workshops. The distinguished speakers, which include notable leaders from the public and private sectors, will offer support, personal advice and motivation to women at every phase in their careers.
"This year's theme alludes to the fact women have the potential to lead meaningful change in every aspect of their lives, their communities, and the world," said AcademyWomen Founder and President Susan Feland. "The symposium will foster this potential to pull insights and begin meaningful discussion and collaboration on innovative solutions to the most prominent and common challenges for military and veteran women, and explore how individually and collectively women can power change."
Sessions include panel discussions on work-life balance, women in war, advancing women into key leadership roles, an interactive mentoring workshop, and a keynote from six-time Olympian, pioneer, and cancer survivor Anne Abernathy.
A mentoring workshop led by AcademyWomen Mentor Leadership Program Director Stefanie Goeble will be held the afternoon of Sept. 24 and is free for all women currently participating in the NavyWomen and AcademyWomen eMentor Leadership programs.
Prior to the start of the symposium, AcademyWomen will hold a career workshop Sept. 22.
"Whether you're a woman transitioning out of the military, re-entering the workforce, needing a boost to increase performance or seeking a career change, the AcademyWomen Career Workshop has something to suit your career needs," said Feland. "The career coaching workshop will address topics related to your professional growth and development in various stages of your career. All seminars, workshops and speakers will provide you with the opportunity to be coached and mentored by career coaches, top business professionals and leaders eager to help you plan for success."
AcademyWomen was founded in 2003, as a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the professional and personal growth of women from the nation's officer development programs.
The organization offers programs to support and enable members, such as a cross-service eMentorship Leadership Program, the annual symposium, regional events to strengthen dialogue between our members, and public policy research focusing on the professional development of women in the military. In addition, AcademyWomen provides insight, research and advocacy on policy issues relating to women veterans.
While the main mission of AcademyWomen is to support the professional and personal growth of women from the nation's officer development programs, the symposium can benefit service men and women of all ranks, and from any accession source.
