GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba (NNS) -- In a new initiative to better serve the local community, U.S. Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay is initiating a program to enroll military retirees and other TRICARE Standard beneficiaries into TRICARE Plus.

TRICARE Plus is a program that allows beneficiaries who normally are only able to get care on a space-available basis at a military treatment facility (MTF) to enroll and receive primary care appointments within the same access standards as beneficiaries enrolled in TRICARE Prime.

TRICARE Plus is only available at certain MTFs, and one of those sites is now U.S. Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay.

"All base military retirees should contact the hospital's Medical Records Office at 7-2350 to enroll in TRICARE Plus," says Rebecca Randal, the hospital's Beneficiary Service Representative. "TRICARE Standard and Medicare rules still apply."

Enrollment in TRICARE Plus will be reflected in DEERS and all beneficiaries are assigned a primary care manager.
