NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (NNS) -- Wings Over America Scholarship Foundation (WOASF) began accepting applications for USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71)'s Family Readiness Group scholarship Jan. 31, via their website, with a deadline of March 1.

Sailors currently assigned to Theodore Roosevelt (TR), Sailors who have formerly been assigned as ship's company, spouses, and dependent children of those Sailors are eligible to apply. Once an application is submitted for the TR scholarship via WOASF, the applicant will become eligible for more than 40 other scholarships offered by WOASF.

"The goal is to make it easy for applicants to apply to multiple scholarships at once," said Christine Wilson, executive director of WOASF. "Normally, you would have to fill out applications for every scholarship you were interested in. This way you will only need to fill out one application. It's a one-stop shop for scholarships."

Only members of the TR family will compete for the TR scholarship.

"One of the best benefits the Navy offers is access to higher education for Sailors and their families," said Amanda Verissimo, TR Family Readiness Group president. "Applying for this scholarship gives family members another avenue to help finance the expense of college."
