WASHINGTON (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command has launched an online version of its award-winning print magazine, Seabee, Feb. 9 to provide the latest news and information through the use of interactive multimedia.

"Seabee magazine has been an iconic communication tool for our Seabees," said Chief Mass Communication Specialist James Pinsky, editor, Seabee magazine. "We want to use the very best and latest technology to make sure we reach as many Seabees, veterans and friends of Seabees as possible."

Taking Seabee magazine online gives the Seabee editorial team the access, flexibility and multimedia tools to tell the Seabee story better, faster and more richly than ever before.

The online version is available to anyone with access to the Internet. Visitors can also view Seabees in action in embedded video and still imagery. In addition, site visitors can interact with Seabees directly through social media portals like Facebook, Twitter, and blogging.

"As an editor I am always looking for better ways to reach our audiences," said Pinsky. "Going online gives my team so many more tools to be able to communicate the Seabee story. Video, sound, and social media interactivity are all key elements of conveying the dynamic nature of the Seabee story, and now with Seabee magazine online, we're able to provide all of these tools for our audiences."

Seabee magazine began as Beeline in 1993 and evolved into Seabee after a redesign in 2002 and has earned top honors in the annual Chief of Navy Information (CHINFO) Awards three times since 2000.

The move of Seabee magazine to an interactive online format is one more step in that evolution to keep the Seabee public well-informed of Seabee news and information.

The new online magazine also includes a survey for readers to provide feedback regarding the new web-based format. Print versions of Seabee magazine will continue through the summer of 2012.
