SAN PEDRO, Calif. (NNS) -- Navy Recruiting District Los Angeles Sailors affected by the Navy's Enlisted Review Board were honored for their contributions to the Navy, during a ceremony in San Pedro, Calif., June 1.
The ERB reviewed Sailors in 31 of the most overmanned ratings and created a specific number of retention quotas within competitive groups broken down by rating, pay grade and years of service.
The ceremony, organized by the NRD Los Angeles First Class Petty Officer Association (FCPOA), gave the Sailors an opportunity to thank their family members and shipmates for support throughout their Navy careers.
"We wanted to do something special for these shipmates before they left the Navy," said Navy Counselor 1st Class Daniza Kramer, FCPOA vice president. "This was our way of thanking them for their service and taking care of our own."
During the event, each honoree's biography was read highlighting their tours of duty, and each received a shadow box from the FCPOA. Each honoree in attendance spoke about their experiences in the Navy and shared about their future plans outside the Navy.
"I'd like to thank everyone for coming," said Aviation Maintenance Administrationman 2nd Class Roderick Glass, MEPS Los Angeles classifier. "I'm going to miss you guys, but I won't miss the 0400 phone calls about your applicants."
Command Master Chief Wayne Marcus thanked the Sailors for their work and gave his philosophy for Sailors concerning the Navy and their future.
"This is your career, make sure you're managing your career every step of the way," said Marcus. "Sailors don't plan to fail, they fail to plan."
